Overdoing It

I may have overdone it a little bit over the last week.  Things that have happened in the last 7 days:

70.3 training

Redoing the entire kitchen and living room floor

Cleaning the entire house from top to bottom

Attending one wedding

Visiting two wineries

Hosting a dinner party for 7 people

Now I would gladly do it all over again (some people never learn), but the lack of sleep caught up with me.  I woke up Tuesday morning with razor blades in my throat and lacking the ability to breathe.  Stupid sickness.

Minus getting sick, the weekend was very enjoyable. We ate, drank, and were merry.  Unfortunately, we did have one unpleasant incident though.  The hotel that we were staying at had a wonderful indoor pool and hot tub.  On Friday night, we went to go relax for the evening.  One of the workers brought his grandkids and their softball team.  It was 9 o’clock at night.  And they stayed for approximately an hour and a half.  I’m generally pretty easy going, but I almost went ballistic on this guy.  It was rude to the n-th degree.  Him and his family ran a number of other guests out of the pool with their rowdiness.  Not a big deal in the major scheme of things, but really left an unpleasant taste in my mouth.  Maybe I was being overly sensitive.

Sorry for the cursing. But not really.

Other than that, we had a great weekend!  The wedding went smoothly, which looked iffy for a while.  It looked like the rain was going to ruin the outdoor ceremony, but the sun prevailed.  The bride and groom were basking in their day, as it should be.

First dance.

Forgive the blurry picture, but this is my newest cousin! She’s 8 weeks old, but lives in Denver so I hadn’t met her yet. I fell in love instantly.

I need a barrel like this at home.

Oh, and if you need a laugh today, check out the view that Superior Bikes has on women who mountain bike.  It’s good to know that I don’t need to push my limits or increase my adrenaline.

Happy Wednesday!

  1. Ha! They’re (rightfully) getting raked over the coals for that ad. I’m just hoping they have a bike suitable for riding around the mall. 😉

Your weekend sounds super fun! Worth feeling a little cruddy, as long as it stays just a little cruddy.

    • I am *SO* happy to see the backlash in this ad. It still surprises me that they let that come out of marketing. Maybe they’ll come out with a “road” bike in pink that’s just a beach cruiser. Because who wants hills when we can have ice cream at the beach! Grrr.

  2. The thing is, kids -are- kids. So you simply don’t take them certain places or put them in certain situations. Especially with a zillion of their friends!

    That barrel is amazing.

    • I’m not against kids, but I think you have to be respectful of those around you. Taking them to the pool at 9 pm when guests are trying to relax out in Missouri wine country is no the place. If it had even been in the afternoon, it wouldn’t have bugged me. I’m sure I’m oversensitive to it since I don’t have kids though.

  3. Wow, I know I am never getting a Superior Bike!

Glad you had a fun filled and packed week. Sorry about the sickness!

  4. Ugh, how frustrating! They had to bring their whole softball team?? I probably would have said something to guest services about it, especially if it’s one of their workers’ guests that are running off actual paying guests! Anyway. I do have kids, and this is (obviously) a hot-button issue for me 😀

That’s a wonderful barrel… I wonder if the neighbors would mind if I put one in my driveway? Haha.

  5. I love your meme about the parenting thing, and am very tired of “kids will be kids” used as an excuse for everything from allowing kids to demolish restaurants to the incident I saw yesterday with the kids screaming at/hitting the mother duck and her babies. I was a kid once, and I was a kid who behaved in public because I knew 1) I would have to answer to my mom who did NOT play around 2) I wouldn’t be allowed to do whatever fun thing ever again. So I behaved because I had parents that made me behave, simple as that. And kids should be in bed at 9 pm, for realz.

  7. As a parent I find “Kids will be kids” infuriating too. Kids are kids but they can learn to be civilized members of society. Sometimes O’s teachers will tell me that about something he’s done and I have to explain that while I acknowledge bad behavior doesn’t mean he’s a sociopath, it also doesn’t mean we let it slide just because he’s a kid. He can learn to do better.
