Five for Friday

1.  I almost tackled Fella for a slice of his pizza last night.  It looked hot and melty and delicious.  Just picture all three of the dogs plus me simultaneously drooling on the couch and staring at him eating.  It wasn’t pretty.  But I stayed strong and true to my Whole 30!

2.  We had a potential adopter back out from adopting out foster Lucy because she is currently heart worm positive and undergoing treatment.  It’s heartbreaking because it sounds like they would have been a wonderful home for her.  I tried to explain to them that there are no lasting effects from heart worms and that she’s going to have a full life, but she didn’t want to hear it.  Most of the dogs that we get are either strays or from bad situations, so 60%+ are heart worm positive when they come into the rescue.  It was definitely a downer last night.

But mom, why doesn’t anyone want to adopt me?

3.  I actually went without coffee this morning.  This is unheard of for me.  Apparently it’s a lot less appealing as an everyday necessity when it lacks creamer or milk.  Plus, I’ve been sleeping great and waking up energized, so less need for coffee.  I’m interested to see how this progresses through the Whole 30.

4.  A bunch of my teammates are racing NOLA this weekend.  While it is bumming me out that I’m not there, I am 100% confident in my decision to not participate.  I would have put myself at risk for injury and had a terrible race.  It sucks that I’m not there, but I am really proud of myself for actually realizing this and pulling out of the race.  Life is all about baby steps for growing up, right?  And now I have Racine 70.3 to focus on!

5.  I’m pretty sure my dogs are better at taking selfies than I am.

Coming home from a weekend walk with Anna last Sunday.

Happy Friday!

  1. Isn’t it funny about coffee? I can get really dependent on it as a habit, and then just one day decide I am “quitting” it again. And you’re right – it’s not always as good without the cream and sugar to mask it!

  2. Heartworms can suck it. I preach heartworm prevention as much as I preach spay/neuter. So easily preventable and so unnecessary.

My foster’s adoption was just finalized today. I’ll be driving her 6 hours east to Johnson City TN next Friday to her forever home. I’m so happy and so sad. Mostly sad. I love that little shit so much.

  3. Love the selfie….and I doubt I ever give up coffee. I typically drink it with one sweetner or black and only have a half a cup to a cup a day.

great job with the Whole 30 and avoiding the pizza. I am working at having more of a plant based diet…which of course is hard cuz I seem to enjoy sugar products.

  4. That is a car full of cuteness 🙂 We had so much fun with you guys! My husband got pizza last night. I should have made myself something else, but I had pizza 🙁 You are a rock!

  5. Your dogs are adorable!! Pizza, I don’t know if I could resist pizza if someone ate it in front of me right now. I might tackle them and run away with it. I gave up coffee and switched to ice tea a few months ago. I don’t miss coffee but I probably need to give up the caffeine in general some day soon. 🙂

  6. I think it’s amazing that you foster dogs. We adopted rescues and they were such a fantastic addition to our life, but fostering takes a different level of commitment, I think. And an ability to deal with the frustration/heartbreak of waiting to find a home.

Can’t wait to hear about your Racine training. It sounds like it was the right choice, and it will be great for you to have a strong race, rather than just getting through it.

    • It’s definitely hard to foster sometimes, but it’s worth it in the end (at least so far).

And hopefully you’re right about the race! I’d much rather give it my all rather than phone it in!
