First off, thanks for all the birthday wishes!  Camping was great and good times were had by all…even if we did get a little water logged!

So you may ask, what’s next?  What does one do when coming off a 15 minute marathon PR?  Why begin training for a first 70.3, of course!  Because logic is not always my strong suit.  Have I mentioned that I’ve never done a tri before?  So, you know, there’s that.  In my defense, my stupidity does have boundaries.  With that being said, I’ve done something kind of terrifying…

I hired a coach.

Here’s the back story.  I found Katie over at Run This Amazing Day back when I first began in the blogging world.  I recently rediscovered her blog again to see that she’s kind of a badass.  And not only is she a certified badass, she’s a coach!  I decided that I want to be smart about this training cycle so I emailed her.  Unfortunately, her plate is jam packed.  Fortunately, she just added the amazing Jenni as a second coach, who I will be working with over the coming months.

So far, so good.  It’s been really nice to have someone who I can ask a million questions.  I will say that I almost had a panic attack and backed out when I saw the first week of workouts.  They don’t seem too hard, but they look incredibly intimidating to someone who has only trained for running up to this point.

Training 30June14So here goes nothing!  I should probably go to the gym and sign up tonight so I have access to a pool, right?

Bring on the 70.3!

Happy Tuesday!

  1. Yay! I’m glad your camping trip went well! I think it was really smart of you to hire a coach for you first tri, and yes, those workouts look intimidating! I can’t wait to hear about how it goes!

    • I’m testing got it on Saturday. I’m interested to see what the difference is. We’ll see. It’s a very different training method than I am used to doing.

  2. Awesome! I’m kind of kicking around the idea of a tri too (but of course, first I would have to buy a bike and a swimsuit). But I think I’ll do a sprint tri for my first race 🙂

    • I have a sprint next month to get some practice in. The bike was a splurge purchase (will post about it on the blog today!), but I just swim in spandex shorts and a sports bra. It’s more comfortable for me than most swimsuits since I’m *ahem* well endowed. Plus, saves me a bit of money right now.

    • I was a bit dubious at first, but it has seriously been the best decision. I’m hoping to get addicted. Maybe bot an Ironman like you, but we’ll see!
